Tom Angelo Guest at Inaugural 2007 Series
The Provost's Speaker Series on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) was initiated in 2007 to promote and enhance the visibility of SoTL at Washington State University. The speaker series brings a nationally known expert in an area of teaching and learning to present a major university lecture and to conduct workshops for faculty and graduate students. This series also provides a venue for interaction among faculty from across the university to stimulate scholarship in this area.
In 2007, Tom Angelo visited WSU and presented a stimulating lecture and three workshops, as listed below. Enthusiasm from his workshops subsequently stimulated a faculty seminar series begun in 2008 to facilitate open discussion of teaching and learning issues.
Tom Angelo's presentations included:
- Seminar: "Pressures, Promises, Pitfalls, and Pathways: Lessons from 20 Years in U.S. Higher Education"
- Faculty Workshop 1: "Making Real the Scholarship of Teaching: Developing Your Own Classroom Research Agenda"
- Faculty Workshop 2: "Seven Levers for Higher and Deeper Learning: Research-based Guidelines and Strategies for Improving Teaching, Assessment, and Learning"
- Graduate Student Workshop: "Pulling it All Together: Making Coursework Clear, Coherent, Connected, and Consequential"
